THEATRE IS HEALTHY FOR YOU
What Science Says About Attending Theatre
How are you holding up? It’s an overwhelming time for many of us and I hope you are finding experiences that bring you joy. People are reporting that every time they go to the theatre, something amazing happens. Yes, they laugh or cry or gasp—but they also feel better... physically. And so do I!
-
A study in The British Journal of Psychiatry found that people over the age of 50 who attend arts events once a month reduce their risk of depression by 48%.
-
Research from the NEA shows that arts participation is associated with lower rates of loneliness, increased civic engagement, and greater life satisfaction.
-
And theatre specifically has been shown to enhance empathy and emotional intelligence—critical traits for strong relationships and thriving communities.
Live performance isn’t just culture. It’s medicine—albeit a delicious one!
But too many East-Siders don’t get that kind of healing. That’s why Lake Washington High School works hard to make our theatre performances accessible to everyone: students, veterans, teachers, older adults, families impacted by autism, and so many more. And the financial impact of attending our shows is minimal:
-
Tickets: $15 or $10
-
Traffic: Hardly any and we're near you
-
Parking: Free
-
Eating out: We're close to home. Eat when and where you want to eat.
Will you help us build a stronger, more resilient East Side Theater program? A gift to us is an investment in our community’s health and well-being.
